Welcome to the La Compagnie Blog . . . the best way to learn about the history of the fur trade in the Upper Midwest!

La Compagnie des Hivernants de la Riviere Saint Pierre is an educational nonprofit group that collects, preserves and shares knowledge about the history of the fur trade and relates it to the history of Minnesota.  We have a special emphasis on the events and activities which took place in the Upper Mississippi – Western Great Lakes Region during the seventeenth (17th), eighteenth (18th), and early nineteenth (19th) centuries.

To keep this rich tradition alive, we participate in historical events and community celebrations where we demonstrate key skills of the era, help the public connect with their part and encouraging better understanding of the various cultures involved in the trade.

Through this blog, we will share our experiences in the field as well as research from our archives.
